The purpose of the Cultural Competency & Health Literacy – The Rural Population training module is to recognize how cultural competence and health literacy impacts the delivery of patient services for the population living in rural communities.
The goal of the Cultural Competency & Health Literacy – The Rural Population training module is for partner organizations to acquire the basic tools needed to identify and reduce health disparities and to demonstrate an increased awareness of the important role cultural diversity and health literacy play in delivering services that are responsive to the cultures, language, and literacy needs of an increasingly diverse patient population within rural communities.
At the end of Care Compass Network’s Cultural Competency & Health Literacy – The Rural Population training module, participants will be able to:
• Define and describe cultural competency as it relates to the rural population.
• Define and describe health literacy as it relates to the rural population.
• Recognize the potential consequences of limited understanding of cultural diversity as it relates to the rural population.
• Identify appropriate resources to address cultural and linguistic gaps as it relates to the rural population.
