The purpose of the Core Concepts in Cultural Competency & Health Literacy training module is to provide a foundation for the course series and serve as an introduction to the general terms and core concepts that will be discussed in depth with regards to the cultural groups presented in future modules: Aging, Rural, Low Income Socio-Economic. Additionally, the course will introduce strategies to improve cross cultural communications and promote equitable services.
The goal of the Core Concepts in Cultural Competency & Health Literacy training module is for partner organizations to acquire the basic tools needed to identify and reduce health disparities and to demonstrate an increased awareness of the important role cultural diversity and health literacy play in delivering services that are responsive to the cultures, language, and literacy needs of an increasingly diverse patient population.
At the end of Care Compass Network’s Core Concepts in Cultural Competency & Health Literacy training module, participants will be able to:
• Define and describe cultural competency.
• Define and describe health literacy.
• Recognize the potential consequences of limited understanding of cultural diversity.
• Identify appropriate resources to address cultural and linguistic gaps.
